Heh... my daughter does yoga with me, we go for 2-3 mile walks several times a week, she rides her bike, and she's upset that my tai-chi class won't accept her into it until she's 13. (she's currently 7yrs old and her tree-pose form is tons better than mine!) I think it's good to set a good example; if you're constantly complaining that you don't want to do your workout, of course your child's not going to want to do it.

Interesting post. Good info but applied too broadly.

At the start of the post I thought you would stick to weight training in children info, then you switched your warnings to sports and cardio exercise.

The "rules" are different per type of activity.

Bottom line encourage children to move and move regularly, but geez don't train them into the ground.

Aerobic workouts using a sound workout strategy along with a great nutrition program could be the best method to lose fat. Keep up the good work.

The greatest fat loss workout involves high intensity interval training, a typical sense diet and plenty of rest.

Getting fitness and exercise on kid's radar, built in as something normal to their lives, may be the most fundamentally important thing we can do. Wrote about youth fitness and parent responsibility on my blog this past year. http://www.fbdindy.com/what-are-you-doing-for-your-kids-fitness/ Curious to know what you think.

Abdominal fat loss does not require tons of crunches, sit-ups or side bends. All you need is a treadmill and a good pair of sneakers. Crunches, sit-ups, etc., will not cause abdominal fat loss, no matter how many repetitions you do. This is because the problem isn't the muscles in your abdomen, which are what gets worked when you do crunches, side-bends, etc.

Excellent Article!

If I could write like this I would be well chuffed ;-)

The more I read articles of such quality as this (which is rare), the more I think there might be a future for the Web. Keep it up, as it were.

Good post, considering how many kids actually ask their parents for permission to go to the gym or use the treadmill at home.
